President’s To-Do List – September 2012

Action Items:

  1. PTA & the Law– Register your unit for any of the 4 upcoming Region 2 PTA & the Law classes.  You can find the registration form in your Leadership packet or online  PTA and Law registration  please  remember you pay one price but can send as many people and to any session across region 2. I hope that all our units will be trained by the last date of these sessions.
  2. Please ‘like’ Facebook page for region 2 it will have snippets of info and upcoming dates to keep you in the loop.
  3. Check your officers   A database is only as useful as the information it is given so keep the communication lines open by making sure the info is getting to the right person in your local unit.
  4. Membership– Make sure to remind your Membership Chair and Treasurer about the October 25th deadline for the first membership payment.   Also, the first deadline for membership awards is September 30th.  To receive your bronze award, you must have 50% of last year’s membership (#) into the state system. (You do not have to submit anything ) Think about who you would like to invite to join your PTSA  region 2 director? School Board member?
  5. Teacher Membership To apply for the 100% Teacher membership you have to have your staff signed up and paid for by October 25th and the application form sent to state. Form here
  6. Legislative Assembly   please use your advocacy muscle and exercise your vote by attending this event.
  7. Legislative Survey– The survey is now live.  Follow the link to take the survey- Legislative Issues Survey.  Although Washington State PTA has attempted to get the survey out to all members, they would have only sent it to members who have an email address in their system.  If you like, you can forward the survey to your members in any way you see fit in order to assure that they all receive it.

  11. Tax Prep workshop information on this hands on get it done work shop. CLICK HERE
  12. Athletes For Kids   this nonprofit looks to bring together high school athletes with children with special needs and disabilities. They have the mentors in the south and central end but are looking for families who would like to have a mentor. Please contact Teresa Bretl if you know of a family who would benefit or just publicize the group in your news letter.

The Seattle Seahawks and Symetra have partnered together to honor great teachers! The Symetra Heroes in the Classroom award recognizes teachers for excellence in the classroom. For the past six years we have worked with Seattle Public Schools, and the past two years have also partnered with the Renton and Shoreline school districts.  This year we’re opening nominations up to all teachers in King County. Twenty-four teachers will be selected throughout the NFL season and will be honored in their schools and at Seahawks home games.

Teacher Heroes will receive:

  • $1,000 donation to the school (one of the 24 schools will win $10,000)
  • Two tickets to a Seahawks home game
  • VIP sideline access at the game
  • Recognition on the video board at the game
  • Other prizes including game gear and $350 Office Max gift card

 New Information:

  • Keep checking on the council website for district wide events.
  • Leg Assembly Training 4th October 7-8 pm KCLS service centre
  • Nov 6th a representative from Vantiv will be at our meeting as the program speaker so please invite your treasurers.
  • PTA and the principal 13th November  11.00 -12.00pm
  • Golden Acorn reception 26th March
  • Reflections turn in 14th November Gallery Art walk 8th January.

From our program yesterday Lillian O’Rorke shared her contact info and would love to publicize/feature  your event please contact her as soon as possible if you would like the press there but at least 2 weeks would be nice. She will also accept photos and synopsis of an event to publish if there is space.

Suzanne talked about the role of the School Board I would love to see y’all joining in the democratic process and coming to a meeting ~ anyone joining me on the 26th September?

Best Practice Moment

I challenge every president to complete this for your unit. If you are willing please email me with a “YES ~ we will take on that challenge!”   No council has ever had 100% completion of SOE ~ could we be the first?  (see I hid a nugget)

Standards of Excellence awards form: read instructions very carefully and follow them exactly.  Only include what is asked for and in the way it is asked for.

Collection List for September (keep in a folder you won’t lose)

  • minutes of general meeting where goals were approved
  • minutes from general meeting where budget was approved
  • minutes from general meeting where standing rules were approved
  • minutes from general meeting where financial review results were presented
  • copy of registration for Region 2 conferences – Mid-Year from Feb. of previous school year AND Back to School of this school year
  • newsletter article showing award recognition for any or all of these 3 awards: Golden Acorn, Outstanding Advocate, Outstanding Educator from previous school year
  • minutes from general meeting where officers were elected from previous school year
  • copy of registration for State Convention from previous school year
